Silverware and Flatware are probably the most overlooked party rental item on a table setting. People like to pick out their linens, the centerpiece, different china patterns, and glassware. Then, when it comes down to the flatware, they choose a pattern that compliments the place setting, and that is the end of that.
We have all been taught the same thing on flatware placement: Work from the outside in. Salad Fork on the left of the Dinner Fork. Teaspoon on the right of the Dinner Knife.
Being a natural rebel, I always like to think outside the box. Your flatware can make a much bigger statement and contribute to your overall table setting design than you think. Below are some of our favorite and more unique ways of placing flatware. So, it’s time to get creative. Hopefully the next time you start to place your flatware, you will give it a little bit more thought.
Flatware placed over the charger or napkin over the china.
Flatware placed over the charger or china, but staggered
90 degree turn.. Stand up your flatware in a hi ball glass rather than the usual laying flat on the table.
Go asymmetrical: Have all your flatware all on 1 side of your china.
Or this even bolder placement: Fan-out your flatware to mirror the fan napkin fold.
Lastly, go against the grain and place your flatware horizontally on your china.
We hope these creative flatware placements will help you to think outside the box when designing your next table setting. We’d love to see what you come up with. Please e-mail us at [email protected] if you would like us to post your event pictures.
